Rio de Janeiro-based Casuarina is one of the most respected Brazilian samba bands, performing their own compositions as well as virtuosic arrangements of classic samba music. “Queen of Haitian Song” Emeline Michel has appeared at numerous international jazz and world music festivals and is beloved in her island home for her blend of traditional rhythms with social and political lyrics. Brushy One String (and his namesake one-string guitar) was “discovered” in rural Jamaica by an Italian filmmaker and has since achieved social media superstar status through his YouTube videos.
